HICG Annual General Meeting

On Wednesday, March 2nd at 7pm, at Hilson Public School, the Hampton Iona Community Group will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM).  At the AGM we will be reviewing the HICG activities since the last AGM and upcoming activities.  A key topic of discussion will be the upcoming OMB challenge against the City regarding the development of the Convent site.  The OMB challenge will require significant help from the community.  In particular, help will be needed to put together our case and expert witnesses from the community who are willing to testify (urban planners, traffic engineers, architects, landscape architects, lawyers, etc).  In addition, we will need people to help with fundraising.

We have invited Councillor Hobbs to attend the AGM and she has accepted.

At the AGM an election will be held for all Executive positions.  The Executive positions are as follows:  President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary.

Nominations are now open for all positions.  Nominees are required to send in their names, email addresses, telephone numbers and street addresses to James Rossiter.  To be eligible a person must meet the following two requirements. 1. Live within the boundaries of the Hampton Iona Community constituency  2. Be at least 18 years of age.

Nominations will remain open until Friday, February 25th at 12:00 pm (noon). Nominations will close at that time.  Nominees’ names will then be posted on the HICG website alongiside the positions for which each person is running.  Uncontested positions will be acclaimed immediately following the noon deadline on February 25th.  Contested positions will result in an election at the AGM.  Each candidate will be asked to give a brief speech (of no longer than 5 minutes) at the AGM, voting will follow directly after.

Nominations and elections are not required for the (non-Executive ) Board of Directors’ positions.  However those persons who wish to sit on the 2011-2012 Board of Directors should submit their names prior to the AGM to James Rossiter or must submit their names during the elections portion of the AGM.  Please keep in mind for those considering joining the Board, that as the Board requires a quorum at all of its meetings and a significant time commitment, if you think you will not have the time required, there are always many other ways to volunteer including sitting on committees or helping out at events.

If you have any questions regarding the upcoming AGM or wish to volunteer your time, please drop us an email.
