Annual General Meeting Details

On March 2 at 7:00 pm, at Hilson Public School, Hampton Iona Community Group (HICG) will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM).  The flyer for the meeting can be found here.

At the AGM we will be reviewing HICG’s activities since the last AGM, including the presentation of financial statements, rink report and president’s report.  We have invited Councillor Hobbs to attend the AGM and she has confirmed her attendance.

As most people are aware, the key issue for HICG over the past 1 1/2 years has been the proposed Ashcroft development at the Soeurs de la Visitation site.  While many of you will be aware of HICG’s activities in this regard from the frequent updates on our website, we will be discussing the latest status of the convent development, including the potential acquisition of a portion of the site by the City as parkland as well as the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) challenge filed by HICG in late-December at our AGM.  When we filed this appeal in late-December, we were facing a deadline of December 29 for potential appeals to be filed.  At this time, we will be seeking the views of the community with respect to proceeding with our appeal.  Should this challenge proceed, it will require a great deal of work by the community if we are to be successful.  In particular we will be looking for help in putting together our case, expert witnesses from the community who might be willing to testify (planners, traffic engineers, architects, landscape architects, lawyers, etc) as well as people to help with fund raising. 

As you may be aware, HICG has a board of directors and four executive positions (president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer).  We are always seeking new board members.  The more members that we have, the more activities that we can pursue. If anyone is considering running for an executive position, it would be greatly appreciated if you could advise us by 25 February so that we will know if a formal election will be needed the night of the AGM and so that the various candidates have time to prepare a few words.   We will advise on the website if any other people put their names forward for any of the executive positions.

In addition to sitting on the board, we are always looking for volunteers to help out with events as they arise or to sit on committees.
