Carling Avenue Construction

This is a release from the City of Ottawa:

Carling Avenue from the Queensway to Merivale Road will be undergoing significant improvements beginning Monday, April 11.

The $43 million infrastructure project is expected to last 18 months and is currently one of the largest infrastructure projects scheduled for the City. Improvements will include the replacement of sidewalks to make it safer for pedestrians and the rehabilitation to watermains and sewer lines.

This important investment in the City’s infrastructure will also include the reconstruction of Carling Avenue and streetscaping from the Carling Eastbound off-ramp from the Queensway to Merivale Road, as well as Merivale Road from Carling Avenue to the Queensway.

Two lanes of traffic in each direction on Carling Avenue will be maintained during peak hours but may be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction during some non-peak times during the construction period. Transit services and pedestrian access through or around the construction site will be maintained.

Merivale Road, north of Carling Avenue, will be closed until the end of August. To assist shoppers and visitors to the area, access to pedestrians and traffic will be maintained to all businesses and shopping malls along Carling Avenue throughout the construction period. Signage will be clearly visible indicating that businesses remain open.

Signage along these roads and Highway 417, as well as public service announcements, will be used to inform motorists about the construction, temporary road closures and alternate routes to discourage cut-through traffic using neighbourhood streets.
