Winter Carnival and Hockey Day

It’s been a challenging winter this year, with warm temperatures in December and combined snow/freezing rain/rain storms throughout January. Thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and attendants we have been able to keep the ice in good condition this winter. We have one of the best bases that we have had in years. We would like to give special recognition to Gerry Macies who has plowed out the rink after our worst storms this winter. Without Gerry, it would have been much harder to recover from January’s storms.

There are a few upcoming events this February at Iona Park that we are pleased to announce.

HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA – Come on out on February 11 between 1 and 3 pm to celebrate Hockey Day in Canada. Iona Park Rink is ideal for a friendly game of pick-up hockey. There may even be a few treats in the trailer on Saturday.

IONA PARK WINTER CARNIVAL – Hampton Iona will be holding its annual winter carnival on the afternoon of February 26, 3pm-5pm. With our growing population of young families in the neighbourhood, the HICG Winter Carnival is the place to be for late-February fun. With games, BBQ and music, it’s a great way of meeting your neighbours, watching your kids play and partake in some gourmet hotdogs. The winter carnival depends on its volunteers for its success.

We need help setting up & cleaning up, serving food, selling tickets or helping with games.  Know a student who needs some volunteer hours?  Please contact Marg Hillier at mhiller144@gmail.com or to webmaster@hamptoniona.ca if you are able to volunteer.
