If you have an extra hour join the Hampton and Iona Community Group as we join the Ottawa City Progam to “Clean Up the Capital”.
Where: Meet at Iona Park (Hilson & Iona)
When: Sunday October 3, 2010
Time: 2:00 pm (takes about an hour)
What to Bring: Friends & Family, rakes.  Rubber gloves will be provided but if it’s chilly you may want something a bit warmer.
We start at Iona Park and then move onto the City area at Hampton Park and clean the play structure and pool area.
Coffee and hot chocolate will be provided.

Kitchissippi Ward councillor Christine Leadman will be hosting a public meeting to discuss the proposed redevelopment of the Soeurs de la Visitation convent.  The meeting will be held Wednesday, March 31st, from 7-9pm at St George’s Church (415 Picadilly Avenue).

Councillor Leadman has expressed her concerns over the development, and would like to hear from the community.  City staff will also be present to answer questions and discuss the next steps in the process.

Tues, 23 March, 9:30am

On Tuesday March 23, the request for heritage designation will go forward to the City’s Planning and Environment Committee. The meeting is scheduled for 9:30am and the Convent is the first item on the agenda. Committee Members are: Peter Hume (Chair), Peggy Feltmate, Michel Bellemare, Clive Doucet, Diane Holmes, Gord Hunter, Bob Monette and Shad Qadri. Wed, 10 March: 7-9pm (St George’s Church)

Ashcroft Homes will be holding the next community meeting regarding the Soeurs de la Visitation convent redevelopment.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, March 10th, from 7pm to 9pm, at St George’s Church (415 Piccadilly Avenue).  At this meeting, Ashcroft will present preliminary concept plans of the site.

We encourage you to come out to voice any thoughts or concerns you may have about the development.

The annual Hampton Iona winter carnival will take place this Sunday, February 21st in Iona Park, from 3pm to 5pm.

Tues, Feb 23, 5-8:30pm

The City of Ottawa will be holding an open house to discuss the environmental impacts of the planned Downtown Ottawa Transit Tunnel (DOTT) light rail project. The session will provide residents with information on current environmental conditions, and an assessment of the impact of the project’s design, construction and operation.

Monday Feb 1, 7pm:

Ashcroft Homes, the developers of the Soeurs de la Visitation convent site (114 Richmond Road), are holding a public meeting on Monday, February 1st from 7pm to 9pm to discuss the development of the site.  The planning and design guidelines will be presented at this time.

The meeting will be held in the basement meeting room at St George’s Church (415 Piccadilly Avenue).  All in the community are invited.

Saturday January 30th, noon:

Saturday January 30th is Hockey Day in Canada.  The City of Ottawa is participating in this event for the second time and is seeking to hold hockey games on as many of its rinks as possible.  Come on out to Iona Park between 12:00 and 2:00 on Saturday January 30 and join your neighbourhood playing hockey.

Thursday January 28th, 7pm:

On January 28, the Hampton Iona Community Group will be holding a public meeting at 7:00 at Hilson Public School.  The agenda includes a review of the Soeur de la Visitation project, a proposed development at Bevan and Wesley and a call for volunteers to help plan this year’s winter carnival.  If you have any questions or suggested agenda items, please contact HIGC at or call Lorne at 613 725-9147.

Tuesday Sept 15th, 7:30pm, Hilson Public School:
The Hampton Iona Community Group will be holding its regular Board meeting on September 15 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Hilson Public School. These meetings are open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. Included on the agenda will be an update on the status of the Souer de la Visitation Convent. Councillor Leadman or a representative of her office will be speaking on this issue. An update on the Westboro Collection development on McRae will also be on the agenda. The community is welcome to add agenda items, preferably in advance so we can set out the agenda accordingly. It is expected that the Convent update is likely to take up the bulk of the meeting.

Tuesday August 25th, 7pm:

The City of Ottawa will be holding an open house on August 25 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Dovercourt Recreation Centre regarding the Churchill Avenue/Scott Street reconstruction scheduled for 2010. Please see the attached notice for further details.

Friday August 7th at dusk:
There will be a family movie night at Iona Park (on Iona St, between Island Park and Hilson Ave) on Friday, August 7th starting at dusk. We are featuring the film Madagascar. There will be popcorn and refreshments available. Bring the kids and a blanket and come and join us for a fun summer night (hopefully the rain will hold off!!)

Tuesday, May 26th, 7pm:

On May 26, Councellor Leadman will be hosting a community meeting to discuss the future of the City’s Transportation Master Plan. The meeting will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 at the Hintonburg Community Centre (1064 Wellington). There are two components of the plan that are of particular interest to the community which Councellor Leadman will be seeking input: 1) he proposed transfer station at Tunney’s Pasture as part of the downtown transit tunnel and 2) the terms of reference for the proposed Western Corridor Environmental Assessment. Tuesday, May 12th, 7pm:

We will be holding the election portion of the Annual General Meeting on May 12, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Hilson Public School. Membership on the board of directors is on a voluntary basis and all are welcome to join. If you wish to be involved with the community association but do not want to sit on the board, you can still sit on a specific committee (Parks, Development, Traffic & Transportation, etc) or help out at special events.

Sunday, April 26th, 10am:

The spring parks clean-up will occur on Sunday April 26th, at 10am.  The clean-up will start in Iona Park, and once finished, will move onwards to Hampton Park.

Everyone is invited to come pitch in to keep our parks clean and tidy!

Monday, March 30th, 7:30pm:

The next Executive meeting will be held on Monday, March 30th at 7:30pm. The meeting will take place in the trailer at the Iona Park skating rink.
Items on the agenda include discussing the election of the next executive, as well as setting a date to clean up the park.

Wednesday, March 11, 6pm:

The land on both sides of McRae Avenue, north of Richmond Road, is being considered for redevelopment. Plans for the Westboro property will be the subject of discussion at a meeting to be held on March 11 at 6pm at the Embassy West Hotel, 1400 Carling Avenue. “It’s going to be about the exchange of ideas, which is the best way to go about doing something like this,” said Brad Hutt, the architect in charge of sales. The proposed development, to be called Westboro Collection, is expected to include condomuniums, town homes, retail and office space.

Sunday February 22 2009:
We will be holding our annual winter carnival.  The carnival will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 followed by a community bonfire.  There will be hockey contests, games for the children, a BBQ, the bonfire and other surprises.  All are welcome.

Saturday February 21 2009, 1pm-3pm:
Hampton Iona Community Group will be participating in the City of Ottawa’s Hockey Day.  The City is planning to have as many simultaneous hockey games with the ultimate goal of getting into the Guiness Book of Records for the most hockey games in one city at the same time.  If you want to participate, the games will be taking place between 1:00 and 3:00PM at the Iona Park rink.  Please drop by and join a game.  More details can be found here (5MB PDF).

Saturday, February 21 2009, 10am-1pm

Hilson Ave School will be having a food drive this Saturday, Feb 21st.  Everyone is welcome.  The drop-in will be open from 10am – 1pm.

Bring a non-perishable food donation for the Westboro Foodbank, and join us for a few hours of fun & games!  Come in from the cold to have a nice hot cup of coffee & donut with your neighbours, compliments of Rogers Community Cruiser & Tim Horton’s.  There will be face painting, music and games for the kids.Invite your friends and neighbours! And don’t forget to bring a donation.
