Iona Park Rink

  1. While we have a group of dedicated volunteers, unfortunately the weather has not co-operated with us this year in getting our rink built.  While we were off to a good start after Christmas, the warm weather until this past weekend set us back.  We have started to flood again, but unfortunately, the City of Ottawa has restarted work on the new umbrella tables which will delay our flooding again by a few days.  While the work crew is in the park with their trucks we are not able to flood.   It takes about 15-18 floods to get a smooth ice surface.  While we like to get several floods done in a day, this is dependent on weather, volunteers and other’s using the park.   If you wish to help out, please forward your name to Hampton Iona Community Group and we will add your name to our list of volunteers.
  1. Like to skate or play hockey?  Looking to make a bit of money on evenings and weekends?  The Hampton Iona Community Group is looking to hire a couple of rink attendants for this winter’s rink season for our rink at Iona Park.  These positions are ideally suited for local high school or university students. This job involves supervising and helping to maintain the rink during the rink season.  Maintenance includes keeping the ice surface clear of snow and flooding the rink as required.  You have to be comfortable working on your own, typically for 5-10 hours per week depending on the number of attendants we have.  Pay will be minimum wage.  Any applicant over 18 will have to get a police check.  Please contact us immediately if you are interested or know someone who might be.
